PayPal fees: questions sellers ask

How much does PayPal charge to receive money for goods?

For a PayPal checkout or invoice, 3.49% + $0.49, or 4.99% + $0.49 when the buyer is outside the US. A goods and services payment sent with Send money costs 2.99%, and a QR code sale in person 2.29% + $0.09.

What is the PayPal goods and services fee?

It is what you pay to receive money for something you sell. A payment sent with Send money as goods and services costs 2.99% with no fixed fee. A PayPal checkout or invoice costs 3.49% + $0.49.

How are PayPal fees worked out?

A percentage of the whole payment, including shipping and any tax you add, plus a fixed fee. For a $50 checkout sale that is 3.49% of $50 ($1.75 rounded) + $0.49 = $2.24.

What does PayPal charge for international payments?

1.50% on top of the domestic percentage when the buyer is registered in another country, so 4.99% + $0.49 for checkout, or 4.49% for Send money. It depends on the buyer’s PayPal country, not the shipping address.

What is the PayPal currency conversion fee?

3.00% on top of the exchange rate when you convert, or 4.00% when the buyer pays in a currency other than your listing currency. NetPayout assumes the buyer pays in USD and you keep USD, so it is not included.

Why is my PayPal fee different from the calculator?

The rate depends on how the buyer actually pays. A card paid through PayPal’s card fields is 2.99% + $0.49 and Pay Later is 4.99% + $0.49. NetPayout uses the 3.49% PayPal rate for checkout and invoices.

Is shipping included in the fee?

Yes. PayPal charges its percentage on the whole payment, including shipping and any tax you add.

Do I get the fee back if I refund?

No. PayPal keeps the fee it charged when you give a full or partial refund.

Can I use Friends and Family to avoid the fee?

No. Payments for things you sell must be sent as goods and services. Friends and Family is only for sending money to people you know, and buyers paying that way get no Purchase Protection.
