Etsy fees: questions sellers ask

How much does Etsy charge sellers?

A $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, and payment processing of 3% + $0.25 per order. A sale that comes from an Offsite Ad also pays 15% or 12%.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to shipping and gift wrapping as well as the item price, and the 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee applies to the whole order total. The transaction fee does not apply to sales tax.

Is there a payment processing fee on Etsy?

Yes. Etsy Payments charges 3% + $0.25 per order, taken from the order total including shipping. Etsy’s pages disagree on whether sales tax is included, so NetPayout leaves it out and the real fee may be a few cents higher.

Does Etsy charge a monthly fee?

The fees here are charged per listing and per sale, not monthly. The only monthly charge is the optional Etsy Plus subscription at $10 a month. Opening a shop also has a one-time setup fee, which varies by location.

Is there a regulatory operating fee on Etsy in the US?

No. Etsy lists the Regulatory Operating fee only for sellers in countries such as the UK, France, Italy, India, Spain and Canada, so US sellers don’t pay it.

When do I pay for Offsite Ads?

Only when a buyer clicks one of Etsy’s ads on another site and orders within 30 days. The fee is 15% of the order, or 12% for life once your shop has made $10,000 in sales in a year, and never more than $100 per order.

Why is the listing fee counted on every sale?

Etsy charges $0.20 to list an item and renews the listing for another $0.20 when it sells, so every unit sold costs one listing fee. Renewals of items that never sell are not included.

How do I include Etsy Ads?

Etsy Ads is a daily budget, not a fee on each sale. Enter roughly what your ads cost per sale as a percentage of the item price, or leave it at 0.

What is not included?

Sales tax Etsy collects from buyers, state tax on fees (such as Texas), the 2.5% currency conversion fee, Etsy Plus, the one-time shop setup fee and Share & Save credits.
